The Journal Newsletter – June 2014

Happy Birthday to The Journal!

On June 18, 1996, version 1.0 of The Journal was released.

At 18 years old, The Journal almost qualifies as one of my children. It’s certainly been most of my professional career as a programmer. =)

When I released The Journal in 1996, I had been using Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 as my journaling tool. I had 3 years of entries in monthly documents, which I had to copy-and-paste one at a time. The Journal’s options for importing have improved quite a bit since then (though, oddly enough, even today I would still have to copy-and-paste to import entries in Word docs; what’s up with that?).

The latest update of The Journal 6 was released earlier this month. You can see the details of this release in “The Journal News” section below.

One of the big changes in this release is in the license agreement. The Journal’s new “household license” allows you to have The Journal installed on any computers you own or are the primary user of–plus on any computers owned by members of your immediate family that live with you. (NOTE: This only applies to individual purchasers, not businesses.)

The Journal Newsletter – April 2014

Happy Easter/Passover/Egg Hunting!

A new update of The Journal 6 was released on 31 March. You can see the details of what’s new and fixed in “The Journal News” section, below.

NOTE: The primary purpose of this update was to make The Journal 6 display better on newer, high density displays (like on the Surface Pro). If you have The Journal 6 Build #739 (from February), and you’re happy, there’s no *need* to upgrade. Just an FYI. =)

We have our usual new writing prompts and a new tip about numbered lists.

The Journal Newsletter – March 2014

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

A new update of The Journal 6 was released last month. You can see the details of what’s new and fixed in “The Journal News” section, below.

FYI: This update looks a bit different. There are (finally) new toolbar/menu and entry tree icons for TJ6. (You can use User Preferences, Global tab, under Skinning sub-tab to revert back to the TJ5 menu/toolbar icons.) Also, I had to squeeze and rearrange User Preferences and Category Properties forms some to support the larger UI settings.

We have our usual new writing prompts and a new tip: Typing Wiki-Like Links in The Journal

The Journal Newsletter – November 2013

Welcome to the Autumn of 2013! This is my favorite time of year: colorful leaves blowing in the wind, cool days under warm sunshine–when it’s not cold rain under gray clouds–and I like that too. =)

The latest update of The Journal 6 streamlines (and fixes) the topic feature, making topics much easier to use. There are also some other neat additions (and fixes). See “The Journal News” below for all the details.

This month’s tip introduces the new, simpler way to wrap text around pictures in your entries, and, as always, we have a couple new writing prompts.

A new update of The Journal 6 is now available. Check out “The Journal News” below for all the details, but the summary is: The Journal now has doodles! Yes, you heard right. You can now doodle in your entries–and even doodle on any image or photograph!

In honor of the new update, this month’s tip tells you how to doodle in your entries. Plus, we have a couple new writing prompts.
