On the evening of 12 Octesh, Dorek led a service for Morrow with a small group of Riversmet refugees in the partially rebuilt Sandrea’s Rest, an inn owned by Sandrea Lowys. The first floor was fully enclosed, but the interior walls had not all been built. So the kitchen and the common room and the beds for travellers all ran together.

 

While Dorek waxed long-winded, Aydin scouted around the ruins of Riversmet. He spotted a squad of Khadorans coming up from the south. He went back and warned Dorek. He made them both invisible and they sneaked out of the Sandrea’s Rest as the Khadorans surrounded the inn.

The sun was setting as the party looked out of a small copse of trees at the northern ford of the Rangercliffe River. On the far side, a troop of Khadoran soldiers encamped for the night. As they watched, wagons were drawn into the center of the encampment. Two light warjacks of Khadoran manufacture were fired up and set to patrolling the perimeter. Two small squads of scouts on horseback came across the river and looked along the rivers edge.

 

Eeniltroo (who had, of course, been there all along) recognized the logo of the wagons as that of the Farclays Jackworks of Leryn. He wanted to know what was in those wagons, and suspected Llaelese warjack parts.
