A piece of loot the party had found in the Sunless Citadel turned out to include a map showing the location of an old Dwarven fortress. A young dwarf who happened to be passing through Oakhurst, and was at the inn having breakfast a couple tables away when they found the map, interpreted the map and described what it told: The secret location of Khundrukhar, a long-dead Dwarven stronghold, betrayed and sacked a over century ago. It's the party's map, so the dwarf, Dalf, accompanies the party.
The 2 day walk to Southreach is uneventful. The 4 day trip to Millorba proved a bit more interesting. A couple of thieves made the mistake of attacking during the watch of Dalf the Stone-Headed. Sneaking up on the dwarf proved easy enough, but the stunning blow to his head simply didn't affect him, except to piss him off. The thieves escaped, but one of them was badly cut-up by Dalf's Dwarven waraxe on the way out.
After reaching Millorba, the party reports to the druid, Ethoath, who had sent them down to Oakhurst. They deliver the "apple", and he pays them. Since they had used none of the 75 gp intended for the auction, he included it in their payment.
The party then prepared to head to Blasingdell to find Khundrukhar. While provisioning up, Viper had the idea of engaging in a bit of trade. So the party purchased 150 gp worth of dry goods to take with them to Blasingdell, since it was a mining town.
Beside rain, which slowed them down some, the trip to Blasingdell was uneventful. In Blasingdell, the party sold their wagonload of dry goods for 200 gp. Then they headed out of town to the north towards the Stone Spur, which their map indicated was the location of the old fortress.
On the third morning of their cross-country trek, a brown bear visited the party during breakfast. Torlic fed the bear beef-jerky until Viper cast sleep and solved the problem.
Later that morning, the party found an old dwarven trail leading up the hill. The trail was on their map, so they followed it up.
2 orcs were found to be standing guard at the top of the trail. Sneaking up close, Viper put them to sleep. Torlic then slit their throats and pushed them over a handy ledge.
The trail doubled-back into the mountain and ended in a set of large stone doors. The doors were slightly ajar, so Viper sneaked in to look around. The room he was in was long, with a wide and incredibly deep crevass dividing it. There was an old rope bridge leading across the chasm.
A couple of orcs standing guard on the other side opened fire on Viper, but missed. Hearing the arrows hit the door, Torlic entered the room and shot the orcs dead.
Torlic crossed on the rope bridge to the other side. Dalf was on his way across when secret doors opened up and 4 more orcs rushed into the room. Dalf reversed his course and went back to face the orcs. Torlic killed one orc from across the chamber, and Viper shot another. A third orc cut up Viper pretty thoroughly until Lothar brought him down. Dalf was forced to chase his quarry into a corner before he could finally kill it.
At the end of the session, Lothar, Torlic, and Viper all became 4th Level. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
