Here in the USA, this is the Thanksgiving Season, a time for Family, Food, and (American) Football. And, of course, giving thanks. In that vein, I’d like to thank my wife, Susan, for not only letting me talk over the movie, but joining me, enthusiastically. =)
There is a new update of The Journal 6 available. See “The Journal News” below for all the details. (The update came out in October, actually, but after the newsletter went out.)
This month’s tip is the (rather long) list of hot-keys in The Journal, alphabetically, and we have a couple new writing prompts.
It’s almost Halloween! The newly-minted three-year-old has his astronaut costume ready to moonwalk through the neighborhood and demand candy from strangers. Which is exactly the sort of thing I enjoy memorializing in The Journal. =)
Most of what I write in The Journal is more professional than personal. I design and develop in The Journal, and keep lots of notes about what I’m working on (some of which I even refer back to). But I also try to add the personal touch every so often. So future generations who browse my journal won’t think I was a *totally* self-centered workaholic. 😉
This month’s tip talks about how to mark “red letter days” in The Journal, and we have a couple new writing prompts.
There is a new update of The Journal 6 available. See “The Journal News” below for all the details, but one new feature stands out: When importing your entries from Diaro, The Journal 6 can now import your photos, as well. That new feature is the subject of this month’s Tip, so check that out.
The Journal Newsletter has moved to a new host.
Finally, as always, we also have a new set of Writing Prompts and a positive attitude about the future. =)
August is Back to School month here in the United States! For The Journal, though, there are *always* discounts for students and teachers (and lots of other people):

Oh, look! Summer. Where did that come from??? =)
There is a new update of The Journal 6 available, with what I hope are some interesting new features. You can check out the whole list in “The Journal News” section.
This month’s tip goes along with the update, describing how you can use the new background images included in the update.
Happy Birthday to The Journal!
On June 18, 1996, version 1.0 of The Journal was released.
At 18 years old, The Journal almost qualifies as one of my children. It’s certainly been most of my professional career as a programmer. =)
When I released The Journal in 1996, I had been using Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 as my journaling tool. I had 3 years of entries in monthly documents, which I had to copy-and-paste one at a time. The Journal’s options for importing have improved quite a bit since then (though, oddly enough, even today I would still have to copy-and-paste to import entries in Word docs; what’s up with that?).
The latest update of The Journal 6 was released earlier this month. You can see the details of this release in “The Journal News” section below.
One of the big changes in this release is in the license agreement. The Journal’s new “household license” allows you to have The Journal installed on any computers you own or are the primary user of–plus on any computers owned by members of your immediate family that live with you. (NOTE: This only applies to individual purchasers, not businesses.)
Happy Easter/Passover/Egg Hunting!
A new update of The Journal 6 was released on 31 March. You can see the details of what’s new and fixed in “The Journal News” section, below.
NOTE: The primary purpose of this update was to make The Journal 6 display better on newer, high density displays (like on the Surface Pro). If you have The Journal 6 Build #739 (from February), and you’re happy, there’s no *need* to upgrade. Just an FYI. =)
We have our usual new writing prompts and a new tip about numbered lists.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
A new update of The Journal 6 was released last month. You can see the details of what’s new and fixed in “The Journal News” section, below.
FYI: This update looks a bit different. There are (finally) new toolbar/menu and entry tree icons for TJ6. (You can use User Preferences, Global tab, under Skinning sub-tab to revert back to the TJ5 menu/toolbar icons.) Also, I had to squeeze and rearrange User Preferences and Category Properties forms some to support the larger UI settings.
We have our usual new writing prompts and a new tip: Typing Wiki-Like Links in The Journal
