The Journal Newsletter

February 2012

Introduction

I hope everyone had a great February! Mine’s been busy (the baby is beginning to crawl everywhere and pull up on everything that offers a handhold), but great! =)

A new update of The Journal 5 has been released. The big news with this release, as promised last month, is the inclusion of a German translation of the menus and UI elements, as well as a full Russian translation to replace the partial translation from last fall. Check out the News section below for more details, and check out this month Tips for how to use the new translations.

Thank you for using The Journal!

TIP: Changing the Language of The Journal’s Menus and Forms

The Journal is (slowly) adding new translations of the menus and user interface elements. So far, The Journal now supports Chinese (People’s Republic of China), Russian, German, and (for our friends with the extra u’s) English (United Kingdom).

To activate the other language: Click on the “View” menu, “Language” sub-menu, and choose the language.

NOTE: To use the Chinese language translation, you will need to be using a Chinese-language version of Windows. The same applies to the Russian translation.

TIP: Spell Checker Dictionaries

The Journal includes both an American English and a British English spell checker dictionaries. The American English dictionary is active by default, but you can change this in User Preferences, on the Spell Checker tab.

There are also spell checker dictionaries available for a number of other languages: Australian English, Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

You can download these additional dictionaries from here.

Installing the new dictionary:

1. Close The Journal.

2. Extract the dictionary file (*.adm) to the “Dictionaries” sub-folder where you have The Journal installed. The default location is:
C:\Program Files\DavidRM Software\The Journal 5\Dictionaries\

3. Run The Journal.

4. Click on the “User” menu and choose “User Preferences…”

5. Bring up the “Spell Checker” tab.

6. Under “Dictionaries”, make sure your new dictionary is listed, and checked.
